The bobsled is an awesome, sweeping downhill adrenaline rush located on the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. The trail careens up the walls of the narrow canyon as if you were riding a bobsled.
The ride is very fast paced and flowing allowing you to climb very high up the side walls, which can also be used to slow your speed.
There are many stunts and obstacles on the trail from jumps and drops to gap shoots and car hops. All obstacles can be bypassed though making this trail an intermediate overall. Protective gear and large travel is recommended if performing any stunts.
This is a downhill only trail but several smaller trails do cross its path so beware of hikers.
Trail Riding Instructions
The bobsled can be accessed from the Bonneville Shoreline trail which can be accessed from several points. We start from the Red Butte area so the trail can be combined with the Roller Coaster for more downhill fun and longer distance.
Ride North on the BST to reach Dry Gulch Canyon and follow the trail East into the trees. The trail climbs about 1.5 miles in Dry Gulch to an overlook of the valley. From there follow trail 2 miles until you reach a wooden bench on the side of the trail. The trail begins straight across from the bench.
Bomb down the bobsled and exit on Chandler Drive. There is a faint trail across the road which connects to 11th Avenue. Continue East on 11th Avenue and follow the road through Popperton Park. There is a paved trail on the Right which becomes a gravel road and connects to the bottom of Dry Gulch Canyon. Follow the BST back to Red Butte to complete the ride.
Directions to trailhead
From Foothill Dr turn east onto Wakara Way and turn right onto Colorow Dr and park. The trail begins on the east side of the road and connects to the BST.
